PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Special Election of the Mt. Sinai Fire District will take place on August 5, 2014 between the hours of 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM at the Mt. Sinai Fire District Main Firehouse located at 746 Mt. Sinai Coram Road, Mt. Sinai, New York, for the purpose of voting on the following proposition:
Shall the resolution of the Mt. Sinai Fire District, in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, entitled: “RESOLUTION OF THE MT. SINAI FIRE DISTRICT, IN THE TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK, ADOPTED JUNE 17, 2014 AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLMENT PURCHASE OF ONE NEW CUSTOM 4X4 1,500 GPM PUMPER TRUCK AND RELATED EQUIPMENT; STATING THE ESTIMATED MAXIMUM COST THEREOF, IS $499,146; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF $469,146 THEREOF BY THE EXECUTION OF AN INSTALLMENT PURCHASE AGREEMENT IN SAID APPROXIMATE AMOUNT AT THE PREVAILING RATE OF INTEREST AT THE TIME OF EXECUTION OF SAID INSTALLMENT PURCHASE AGREEMENT AND THE EXPENDEITURE OF $30,000.00 OUT OF THE CAPITAL RESERVE FUND FOR APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT OF THE DISTRICT, PREVIOUSLY ESTABLISHED; STATING THAT IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT SUCH PURCHASE IS A TYPE II ACTION PURSUANT TO THE STATE ENVIRONMENT QUALITY REVIEW ACT (“SEQRA”) AND WILL NOT RESULT IN ANY ADVERSE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT; DETERMINING THAT THE PERIOD OR PROBABLE USEFULNESS OF THE VEHICLE TO BE PURCHASED IS TWENTY (20) YEARS; PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY OF TAXES TO BE COLLECTED TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ON SAID INSTALLMENT PURCHASE AGREEMENT, duly adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of said Fire District on the 17th day of June, 2014, be approved?
Pursuant to subdivision 4 of Section 179 of the Town Law, every elector of the Town of Brookhaven who shall be a registered voter of such Town and who shall have resided in the Fire District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding the election which is the subject of this notice shall be qualified to vote upon such proposition.
Please note that only persons who have registered with the Suffolk County Board of Elections on or before the 23rd day before the Fire District election shall be eligible to vote. For this Special Election, such registration must have taken place on or before July 14, 2014.
Please be advised that the Board of Elections of the Fire District shall meet on July 21, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Main Firehouse of the Mt. Sinai Fire District, 746 Mt. Sinai Coram Road, Mt. Sinai, New York, for the purpose of preparing the rolls of registered voters of the Fire District.
